Internap Enhances Network Performance for Blackboard’s Hosting Data CenterIntelligent route control technology dramatically decreases latency; overcomes Internet performance culprits in real-timeATLANTA, GA – (August 13, 2007) – Internap Network Services Corporation (NASDAQ: INAP), a provider of choice for fast, reliable Internet business solutions, today announced that Blackboard’s ASP Services group has selected Internap’s intelligent route control technology to optimize the performance of its multi-homed network. Since installing multiple Flow Control Platforms (FCPs) in the United States and Europe, Blackboard has seen a significant improvement in latency. As a result, content throughput has increased to deliver an exceptional online experience to Blackboard’s hosted clients, which include academic institutions, publishers and corporate and government agencies, located worldwide. Internap’s intelligent route control technology provides unmatched visibility into overall network performance, allowing Blackboard to better manage costs, control bandwidth allocations and monitor service level agreements with multiple Internet service providers (ISPs). The FCP shapes how traffic is sent to transit providers in real-time and without human intervention, overcoming the inefficiencies of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), which ISPs traditionally use to establish routing between each other. The appliance also minimizes the possibility of downtime due to brownouts and outages. “Internap’s solution has significantly increased the reliability and speed of our hosting service,” said Jay Robertson, vice president of ASP Services at Blackboard. “Today, the FCP gives us control and visibility into the network, without interruptions from the BGP, enabling Blackboard to switch our hosted clients to the fastest, least congested path. This high level of performance translates into happy, satisfied clients.” “Internap’s leadership position in intelligent routing is clear,” said James P. DeBlasio, president and chief executive officer for Internap. “Our technology ensures that mission critical services, like those offered by Blackboard, can leverage the power of the Internet to enable educational innovations around the world. We’re pleased to play a role in Blackboard’s ability to grow a network dedicated to better communication, commerce, collaboration and content.” An Internap customer since 2004, Blackboard also deployed Internap’s Flow Collector Remote Appliance (FCR), a solution that works in conjunction with the FCP to collect data on the health and volume of Internet traffic in a geographically distributed environment. The FCR meets customers’ requirements for remote traffic collection with central location management. Internap’s line of FCPs scales up to 40Gbps and can be configured to route based on policies such as cost, performance and application. In addition to improving transfer speeds, the appliance also includes a reporting tool that renders complex data, including historical network performance metrics such as latency and packet loss.
